Acting Chairman of the Board

Elly Oduol who is currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors at International Development Institute – Africa, moved from UNDP Kenya and joined UNDP BCPR WACA team in Dakar June 2009 as Regional Programme Adviser/Specialist. He has been involved in strategic development & formulations and strategic planning, analysis/assessments. He has also facilitated strategic planning exercises. He was BCPR Focal Point for Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Ghana and Gambia, providing support for UNDAF roll out process, review of Country CPDs, formulation and development of CPR project proposals for BCPR funding (ensuring integration of gender responsive programming), participation in country programme mid-term reviews and evaluation of country programmes/projects, training country teams in integration of DRR in UNDAF and CPAP, design of resource mobilization strategy for CPR programmes. Elly has 16 years of an extensive experience in Crisis Prevention and Recovery/ Disaster Risk Reduction and Conflict Management and 20 years of experience in HIV/AIDS programme development, implementation and evaluation including work with Government, Non Governmental Organizations. Just before joining UNDP West and Central Africa team Elly was the chair of the Early Recovery Cluster during the post election violence in Kenya, Senior Assistant Resident Representative and head of the Crisis Prevention unit of UNDP Kenya and the chair of the Inter-Agency Early Recovery Cluster during the post election violence in Kenya, He was instrumental in the in the establishment of the national steering committees on peace building, conflict resolution and small arms reduction and the national platform for disaster risk reduction in Kenya. Prior to joining the United Nations development Programme in 1996, Elly held several senior regional health program planning, design/formulation and implementation positions in Eastern Africa region between 1984-1995 with African Medical and Research Foundation and Path Finder International

Charles Oyaya is the Executive Director of International Development Institute – Africa (IDIA) Charles is a Governance, Health and Development Planning and Public Policy specialist with vast experience in public health, development planning, poverty analysis, HIV/AIDS, health systems development, social policy and protection, health planning, program planning, public policy analysis and advocacy, fundraising and resource mobilization, peace building and conflict resolution, strategic planning, organizational change management, operational research including needs assessments, baseline surveys and monitoring and evaluations, governance, devolved governance, constitutional law and law reforms and institutional development among others in eastern, horn and Southern Africa. He has carried out consultancy assignments for various governments and leading national and international agencies. Mr. Oyaya’s previous role in research and drafting specialist at the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC) gives him a deep appreciation and understanding of the governance, human rights and rights based approaches service delivery. His current roles at the International Development Institute Africa (IDIA) and the Great Lakes University of Kisumu involves a unique mix of academic, programmatic, senior management, research and consultancy responsibilities and leadership. Mr. Oyaya is able to work with professional teams and communities from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds.

Mary Oyaya is currently a member of Board of Directors at International Development Institute –Africa (IDIA) she is also a distinguished professional with experience spanning a multidimensional technical competence in Credit Management, Research and Marketing. She worked at DHL World-wide Express (finance department) her roles mainly involved credit management and customer care tasks. She also participated as a volunteer sales and marketing advisor to Africa Health and Development (AHEAD) Management Services. She possess broad cross cultural and multidisciplinary experience and is able to work with professional teams and communities from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds.

Paul Mbanga

Paul is a Board member of International Development Institute – Africa (IDIA) and an accomplished public health expert with over 18 years of experience in health and development fields. He has worked with various organizations in Kenya spanning from ministry of health, Faith based organizations to local and international organizations. Paul holds a PhD in Global Health among other important qualifications. Paul has worked with MEDS as the Capacity Building Manager and Human Resource and Administration Manager, AfriAfya- Health Knowledge Management and Communications Network for Africa, Plan International (Kenya) as the Health Advisor, GOK/MOH.

Alice Mudiri is a member of the Board of Directors at the International Development Institute – Africa (IDIA). She is currently the Executive Director of the Beverly School of Kenya. Alice brings a wealth of experience in both teaching and working with non-profit African organizations to the Beverly School of Kenya. She has worked for the World Health Organization, African Region Headquarters; University of Zimbabwe, Division of Reproductive Health; Christian Health Association of Kenya; Africa Community Action Health Network; and was acting Chief Operating Officer for the National Council of Non-Governmental Organizations in Kenya. She taught Health Policy Planning at the Tropical Institute of Community Health in Kenya; at Kenyatta University in Nairobi; and at the Nativity School in Worcester, Massachusetts.
