Philosophical Foundation
The International Development Institute-Africa (IDIA) college is founded on Christian principles and values that promote generation and application of knowledge to societal transformation. IDIA’s character is therefore demonstrated by its commitment to advancing positive knowledge, fostering positive learning and nurturing transformational leadership hence our motto, Pro Scientia et Mutatio (For Knowledge and Change).
IDIA College of Technology and Development Studies is a private value based tertiary education institution founded on Christian principles. The primary aim of IDIA College is to foster transformative leadership and find solutions to Africa’s leadership, poverty and underdevelopment challenges through value- based education and applied research. The goal of this Strategic Plan is to establish the college as the most respected knowledge enterprise and international centre of excellence providing the best value to our stakeholders. The Plan defines our aspirations and priorities over the next five years taking into account the emerging challenges and opportunities in higher education and development in Africa and the world. Through this Plan, we therefore believe that the college is adequately primed to take off towards sustained growth and development over the next decade.
IDIA College was established and started admitting students in May 2012. It has steadfastly produced candidates who continue to transform their communities. IDIA college offers a range of courses both at diploma and certificate level. The college applies innovative methods of teaching involving a combination of lectures and other interactive education methods such as group work, case studies, problem –solving techniques and seminars. Broadly, the IDIA teaching and learning approach involves the use of the following:
- Face-to-face class-based teaching;
- Distance learning/virtual learning techniques
- Evidence based techniques;
- Problem-solving techniques;
- Participatory and hands on service-oriented learning methodologies;
- Case studies
- Professional coaching, guidance and support;
- Workshops, seminars and colloquia among others

- Individual self-directed learning techniques.

Our courses prepare one for a range of careers in public health, environmental health, social work, public administration, community development, private enterprise among others. Our world class gradates stand the opportunity to serve in the public sector, civil society and private sector both in Kenya, Africa and beyond.
