CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY HEALTH
Community Health is a multidisciplinary course that focuses on improving the health and well-being of communities through sustainable development practices. This course examines the complex interplay between health, social, economic, and environmental factors that influence community welfare. Students learn to assess community needs, design and implement health promotion programs, and evaluate their effectiveness. The curriculum typically covers topics such as primary health care, health education, community organizing, social determinants of health, and participatory research methods. Emphasis is placed on understanding cultural diversity, addressing health disparities, and empowering communities to take charge of their own health outcomes. Practical skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization are also developed. This course prepares students for careers in public health, community development, NGOs, and government agencies, where they can work towards creating healthier and more resilient communities.
Entry Requirements
An individual entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:
a) Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade D (plain)
Or
b) Certificate Level 4 in Community health or a related course
Or
c) Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Qualifications Authority
(KNQA)
And/or
d) Any other requirements as may be guided by relevant regulatory body

1. Develop critical thinking and analytical skills necessary for implementing community
health programmes.
2. Manage Community Health Information Systems
3. Demonstrate clear understanding of community health diagnosis, and community
health care
4. Develop strong communication skills.
